I am extremely excited to announce the establishment of another BLUE REPUBLICAN state chapter – in Louisiana.
Here are some words of introduction from the chair of our newest chapter…
My name is Benjamin Arnold and I currently reside in Shreveport, Louisiana. Being born in the early 70’s, I grew-up watching the images of President Reagan during the 1980’s and, because of what I thought he and the GOP represented, considered myself a Republican. After serving a year as an infantryman in the Army, under President Bush, I registered to vote in 1992 and, experiencing my first electoral disappointment (when Bush lost to Clinton), set about studying the beliefs and tactics of those I perceived as the “opposing party,” i.e. Democrats. However, my research revealed to me much more.
After serving in the military throughout most of the 90’s, and objectively studying the Democratic and Republican Parties, I came to realize the hypocrisy of both. I realized the Republican Party isn’t for smaller government, individual responsibility, and personal choice and the Democratic Party isn’t for noninterventionism, egalitarianism or liberty; they are essentially one party, with only superficial differences, and both in support of special interests, corporate power and global hegemony. I changed to an Independent in 2003 and ran for local office and then in 2007 for the state legislature.
Over the years, I have come to believe that “liberty for all” is much more than a cliché; it is the very purpose for the existence of our nation. The means through which that may be achieved vary greatly but, regardless of means, the goal of all government action must be egalitarianism. In addition to my own, I have worked for the campaigns of candidates from across the political spectrum. I was recruited by the Louisiana State Libertarian Party Chairman and registered as such in 2010; I have since worked diligently to advance the cause of liberty.
I am very glad to have found “Blue Republicans” and look forward to working with this organization to advance such issues as heightened social conscience, egalitarianism, leaner and more efficient government, and noninterventionism but, foremost, at eradicating barriers to the free exercise of liberty. I believe the most effective tool for this laudable cause is communication and I am looking forward to working with Progressive Republicans, Conservative Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, and all others who share in our goals.
