This is a good day for Blue Republican.
Ian Swope, who’s already done great things behind the scenes on the techy side of things for Blue Republican, is stepping up to a leadership role to take over the state chapter of Blue Republican in Illinois.
Here’s what he has to say.
My name is Ian Swope and I’m very proud to be part of Blue Republican Illinois. I’ve lived most of my life in the Chicagoland area and have seen first hand the intersection between politics and identity that can be so strong here in the Midwest. The message of liberty is rarely heard in Chicago yet it is exactly the type of environment where liberty can flourish best if given the chance. We are only now starting to wake up to the failures of decades of single party rule in this city and when the sleeper awakens it will be a great day, indeed!
I was brought up in a family of teachers and self-described lifelong Democrats. Like many out there in the liberty movement today I considered myself liberal by default as I didn’t really know much about the other side except that which was presented to me on television. As the years went by and I traveled all over the country I came to realize that there is way more that unites all of us than separates us and that often the positions that seem most divisive are more manufactured than truly believed.
What is often forgotten is that it isn’t a single policy or position that are the divisors as much as we think they are. When we look at the desired outcomes that is when it becomes obvious that everyone wants the same basic things. Focusing on our shared values and demonstrating that we can bring this about with liberty and love is what will eventually move our message, as well as our country, forward.
